What first drew me to Charta Health was the opportunity to work in a forward-deployed role at one of the fastest- growing healthtech startups in San Francisco.
I started out working side-by-side with Charta engineers on client implementations, which was exactly the experience I was looking for. But by the time I concluded my 12-week internship, I'd become increasingly interested in the specialized language that clinical teams speak.
As I listened in on client calls, I realized that building for clinical teams is about more than just the tech. It's also about acting as a solutions architect: surfacing provider trends, documentation gaps, and revenue opportunities, as well as recommending product modules that could achieve demonstrated ROI on the metrics that mattered most to those clients. My biggest growth this summer came from the realization that delivering value means absorbing clinicians' language and processes well enough to make recommendations alongside them, consulting with them like a teammate who shared in the outcomes.
Beyond the work itself, I came to the office every day genuinely excited to see my colleagues. I found the Charta team to be the perfect combination of welcoming, humble, talented, and quirky. Throughout my internship I got to participate in frequent off-site happy hours, company catered lunches, lively intern events (including an ultimate intern ping-pong tournament and a trip to Foreign Cinema), and weekly Run Club (where it was revealed that one of our engineers is a former state champion). I'll truly miss the vibrant SF office scene and working alongside people with such unique backgrounds outside of work. I look forward to continuing at Charta as a co-op deployment strategist intern this winter.
Experiences from this internship have inspired me to work towards my CPC (Certified Professional Coder) certificate in the meantime, in order to gain the necessary knowledge to work with clinicians and RCM teams, to solve the challenges that keep them up at night.
Charta has already left a meaningful impression on my career. I’m looking forward to returning to Charta later this year!
