What drew me to Charta Health was not only the opportunity to work at the frontier of health tech, but also to work with a team characterized by excellence.
Before I started my internship, looking through the backgrounds of Charta's ambitious engineering team gave me insight into what an internship here might be like: fast-paced, challenging, and initiative-driven. That expectation certainly proved true: By the end of my internship, I’d built and deployed Charta’s metrics and alerting platform, now used by every forward-deployed engineer at Charta. Charta’s ownership- and accountability-driven culture enabled me to carry out the design, roadmapping, and implementation phases of the project, which gave me the opportunity to own the initiative end-to-end. Seeing the tools I created used across all of Charta’s production accounts provided a sense of fulfillment you rarely achieve as an intern engineer at a traditional company. At Charta, I was never given “intern work”; I was trusted with high-stakes engineering projects whose success genuinely mattered to the company.
Charta’s engineering team possesses a unique blend of technical wisdom and eagerness to adopt the cutting-edge. With high-impact alumni from both frontier startups and senior roles at leading technology companies, every engineer at Charta brings something unique to the team. Participating in technical designs with such exceptional engineers constantly challenged me to defend my engineering decisions and raised my standards for technical judgement. The opportunity to not observe, but also contribute to high-stakes technical design councils and product discussions as an intern gave me a level of ownership and exposure that I wouldn’t expect at this stage of my career.
Complementing Charta’s culture of high standards and responsibility was the team’s excellent support system. I was paired with a mentor who enthusiastically explained our system architecture, took my endless questions, pushed me through complex challenges, and encouraged me to refine my approach when there was a better way forward. My mentor genuinely cared for my career growth and allowed me to choose the kinds of projects I worked on. Throughout the hours we spent together debugging breakages and debating designs, I never felt alone for a single moment of my four months at Charta.
Working on such a talented team so early in my career has been an honor, and I look forward to continuing to work on infrastructure projects at Charta Health this fall and beyond.
